Installing windows 7 on a used laptop

    Hi,
I'm going to be selling my laptop on eBay and was wondering how to I go about installing Windows 7 on it and then install all the drivers and everything but then not have the user and everything set up before hand... like the way they do it when you get your new laptop. Can that be done?
    Thanks...

If it came with windows 7 pre-installed you should be able to just run the system recovery utility and restore it to factory defaults. That will re-install the original drivers and utilities it came with. On first boot afterwords when you get the screen asking for a user name etc, just press the power button and shut it down.

If you did a fresh installation, you should have the installation disk. Could you not use that?

Folllow these steps to get a perfect reinstall of factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7

Otherwise order the Recovery Disks from manufacturer's Tech SUpport.

Have you considered just selling the laptop with the current installation, if it's the same version as licensed on the COA sticker? You can move off all files, change User Account to "Owner" though it will still appear by name in some places, then clean it up using Disk Cleanup/CCleaner and defragger.

Hi Techeretic, welcome to the Seven Forums.

What you want to do in order to prepare your old laptop for sale is an easy and straight forward procedure even if you do not have Windows 7 Home Premium install media or factory recovery partition. Instructions can be found on the thread Alphanumeric told you on post #2 earlier this thread.

Here's the summary of the easiest way to accomplish what you want to:
    • Follow the instructions on this post to install Windows 7 Home Premium to your Lenovo. Do exactly as told on that post to ensure the buyer of your Lenovo gets a fresh Windows without any personal user related information
    • The buyer can then use the OEM product key of your Lenovo (see sticker on bottom of laptop) to activate Windows
