80 gigs for windows? seems a little big
I'd like to only give it as much space as it needs without being wasteful
How big is win 7 x64? I thought like 8 gigs max?

If you aren't ever going to install applications or update Windows or have any personal data on C, 20 GB would probably get it done.

Are you ever going to install applications to your Windows partition or update Windows?

I hear of people doing fine with 40 GB if they watch what they install and stay on top of things.

    Microsoft recommend 20GB For Windows 7 64-bit.

Windows 7 system requirements - Microsoft Windows

With applications, 40GB should be enough, but it depends what else you're going to install.

With today's larger hard drives you might as well give Windows room to breathe, in my view.

I personally would go with no less than 100gb.

Since you're apparently missing my posts, I'll repeat: Boot into installer, select Custom install, then Drive Options, create a 100bg partition to try install, click Next.

    What happens?

Had you used these Drive Options to delete and format as SeaVixen told you in Post #2 you would have likely had the problem solved then as installation would have proceeded or notified you that your Dynamic Disk couldn't be used until converted to Basic.

Ohh so my partition for windows is also for my C:\ primary drive?
I don't see why i need to do a parition. Why can't all my data AND windows just be on C:\ without a partition?

Win7 needs to be installed to a partition which will be C. You don't need to have any others, though, nor do you need to do anything if you're not concerned about partitioning.

Just click Next when it comes to the screen to select where you want to install Win7, since you only have the one HD and it's now wiped. The installer will create and format the partition for you, including a small boot partition for the boot files.
