Dell studio xp9000 need help install drivers and system software

    Dell Desktop Studio XP9000

I need to install new w7 software and drivers. Dell is not much help. This is what's going on. According to Dell the w7 software on my computer is bad and i need to install new software and drivers. They sent a new w7 (system) disk and a drivers disk. They say that i have to install the drivers first. I could work with Dell but that would be several hours on the phone - already spent to many hours to get this far.

How do I install drivers and system software - do I have format ????

I hope I have enough info

    Thank you

You dont say why you need to re-install. We need that info to give you appropriate suggestions.

If you do need to install you probably will need to format and clean install win 7.

I was having all kinds of problems - system shut down for no reason, blank screen, freezing etc. After many hours of trying to restore to factory settings which could never be done dell concluded that w7 software is damaged. It was determined by dell that the problem was software and not a hardware problems. Dell sent the new disk to install drivers and software.

All i need is how do I get started.
Format first, install drivers first and what keys to press to start the process

    Thank you

How long have you had the computer? Are there any important files on it that you do not want to lose?

over one year - no important files - I just want to bring the computer back to factor settings. I understand that I will lose all data.

Can someone show me the steps on how to do this with the info I have provided

    Thank you

Unfortunately, the info you have provided will not allow anyone to help you properly. Could you let us know what the discs say on them? That would be a start to us being able to help. For instance, do they just say DELL drivers, or are there DELL recovery discs?

Also, how did you try to restore to factory settings before? Were you pressing keys when the computer first started and trying to recover using the recovery partition? Did you try to do the recovery through Windows? The more details we get, the easier it will be for us to resolve your problem.

I might suggest a slightly different course.

Format first of course, Then Install win 7, if it needs any drivers (wont unless you have a raid or something else odd) it will prompt you for them.

There are quite a few tutorials on the subject here on SF.

Follow these steps to reinstall Win7 and provide only drivers not given by the installer or quickly updated by optional Windows Updates: Reinstalling Windows 7
