OK What am I doing wrong I have deleted the ei.cfg file burnt to dvd and put on pen stick and I can't get either to boot !!

I don't know why your DVD won't boot (could be a bad burn, did you verify the image?) but for the flash drive, you have to go through a process to make it bootable. I believe there may be a tutorial on how to do that in the tutorial section of this site.
Once the flash drive has been made bootable, then you never have to worry about that again and can use it over and over for installing or repairing your OS.
yeah what i thought, thought i had made my flash drive bootable there again i might not have do it again now an try again
There's an easy way to remove ei.cfg while keeping the ISO image bootable. Someone (the same guy who makes HashCheck) made a tool just for this and posted it at Neowin:
Windows 7 RTM ISO Image Edition Switcher - Neowin Forums
It's pretty fast, too, since it avoids unpacking and rebuilding the DVD, and it's all done in less than a second.
If the image was bootable, and all you do is remove the EI.cfg then the image is still BOOTABLE. If he image was
NON bootable it will still be NON Bootable. Many different programs will check the image to see if bootable. UltraIso is one. If you image is non bootable add the boot.bif to the image. (PS: YOU MUST ALWAYS SAVE THE IMAGE AFTER YOU MESS WITH IT). I have found many when I ask the other step by step what did you do....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh crap, 90% fail to say "Save" as the last step.
Be honest Did you save the Image after you modified it.
