windows 7 fresh installation: hangs at setup is starting window

    Hello,
i have emachines e730 notebook. with windows 7
    its intel core i3-330 m processor, 2gb ddr3 memory
    320 gb hdd.

the problem i am facing is that my machine does not boots up.
i tried putting recovery disc, but it hangs at window showing please wait!!!!
Next, i tried for fresh installation of windows 7 but it also hangs at a window displaying "SETUP IS STARTING".

    any suggestions??
am struggling with it for the past 3 days
i tried reading many threads in the forum but am not confident and sure what steps to take.
i have taken back up of my data using ubuntu live, so if i have to format the hard disk there will be no issue
also one more question, can i delete all of my files using ubuntu live and then try to install windows 7 ???

Is there still an installation to attempt repairs? If so boot into System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair repeatedly.

If this is only a failed install at this point, try wiping the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? Has it worked before to install successfully? If not confirm the ISO and burn another DVD using IMgBurn at 4x speed, or write ISO (extracted using ImgBurn) to flash stick using Universal USB Installer, boot under USB, Removable or HD's.

i am using the recovery disk that i created from create backup and recovery option from control panel when my machine was working fine, it took 4 dvds in all with drivers included.

I TRIED TO DO CLEAN HARD DISK USING DISKPART COMMAND
but when i try hitting shift+f10 key at the language screen and enter diskpart and press enter, it also hangs at window showing
    On computer: MINWINPC

it does not come to the DISKPART> command

Which are you using: the USB stick Win7 installer, or Recovery disks? One will give you a clean reinstall without the factory bloatware, then latter will restore all of the factory preinstalled bloatware.

What exactly happens when you try to boot into the stick or the Recovery disks?

Follow these steps which include everything needed to get a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7

the problem i was facing was that when i put my recovery disk or when tried to do fresh installation with usb it used to hangs.
During fresh installation, i tried to enter diskpart commands by hitting shift+f10, and the window appears, but when i typed diskpart and pressed enter, it also got hanged for two hours at
    On computer: MINWINPC
    the Diskpart> command didnt came.

Then i tried the following and the problem was solved:)
at the same window that appeared on hitting shift+f10 at the language selection screen i entered the following commands.
    >bootrec.exe/FixMbr
    >bootrec.exe/FixBoot
    >bootrec.exe/ScanOs
    >bootrec.exe/RebuildBcd

and all the windows that were hanging were not hanging now!!!
the system recovery disk ran and also the fresh insallation copy moved into next step, i did try both of them!!!
well the system recovery disk didnt went upto final step, it showed an error at 55% when 2nd dvd was inserted, something redudancy error, cant remember it exactly now...
then i carried out fresh installation using usb stick and it worked.
the system was bought back to life.......
tomorrow again i will try with system recovery disk an try to restore at factory settings or otherwise continue with installation of copy that i downloaded

Feels good to see the window and normal operation after 3 days struggle, learnt many things regarding this.

Thank you Gregrocker for your advice and support, also thank you Theog!!!!

    Hi Rasal,

I realize this is a super-old thread. But, I am going through the exact same problem (on Dell laptop). However, I was wondering how long did the 4 commands that you wrote took to execute ? I have been waiting for more than 10 hours, and it is stuck at the '>bootrec.exe/ScanOs'. I have tried everything else, and nothing seems to be working. I am so scared that my laptop hard drive is gone, which contained a lot of my data. I also don't want to spend much on this old laptop, while I can't afford to buy a new one either. I will truly appreciate the help that you or anyone else provide !

    Hi Bigd,

I almost remember that it did not take huge amount of time to run those commands. The root cause problem was my Hard drive itself Because, three years before, even after i was able to install windows 7, it used to get crash/hang every other day. I am not sure which software i used to check bad sectors in HDD and even tried to repai, but in vain. My hard disk had bad sectors and was not at all usable and i had to replace it with new one. Hope so that it is not this worse with you. Try checking bad sectors in your drive.
