    Installation failure due to BthMig

    Hi,

I'm getting this error multiple tries in Upgrading Vista Business x86 to Win7 Ultimate x86. I can't seem to find a solution to this anywhere and hope some guru can help. Its very frustrating to wait hours and then crash at the last minute because of a hardware I don't even have. Try many things. 3 hours each 4 times = 12 hours wasted.

    I keep getting:
Error [0x0808fe] MIG Plugin {e0cbf06c-cd8b-4647-bb8a-263b43f0f974}: BthMig: Failed to migrate bthport keys, bailing out

BthMig is basically Bluetooth and I don't even have any bluetooth on my system and to top it off there's no *bth* drivers!!!

    HELP!!!

    Thanks,
    -Alan

There is a way forward which worked for me. I had the same problem and no bluetooth on my system. Then I paid careful attention to the Windows Compatibility Report which comes up near the start of install.

    • These programs might not work properly after the upgrade. We recommend uninstalling these programs before upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel, and search for "uninstall a program". (Note: Programs marked as * can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.)

      • Adobe Acrobat 5
      • Magic ISO Maker/MagicDisk
      • Network Monitor 3 *
      • Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 *
      • Virtual PC 2007 SP1 *

I removed the named programs (and a few others like Vodafone Connect and Wireshark) and restarted the install. It worked.

upgrading can cause these types of errors which is why it's suggested to always back your data up and do a clean install

    Conclusion.
It was the Vodaphone connect that installs bt drivers by default.

It was my conclusion that Windows Mobile ... installed bt drivers by default.

squonksc, what evidence do you have it was Vodafone? If you are right then I think Microsoft/Vodafone/Huawei should do something. It is a Huawei K3715 USB modem and Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite V 9.3.3.10523. I would think there will be quite a few users of Vodafone Data Services who will want to upgrade (not custom) to Windows 7 build 7600.

What do you suggest? Do Microsoft monitor this forum?

Hey guys, thanks for all the advise. I've been on business trip and can't test it out so I will definitely try to see if I can get rid of all the stuff on the Compatibility Report. I still remember the only 2 I didn't get rid of was iTunes and google Toolbar (which I never installed and it's not in my uninstall selections. Will give it a try. I rather upgrade since I really do not want to reinstall everything and it took me a very long time to have it the way it is now. Even Vista is running quite well, I just like to have the latest. Been running Beta for a while at work so Win 7 seems quite nice. And you get to learn more when you upgrade and tweak. =D I really do not think it's Vodaphone for me since I'm in the US. We don't have Vodaphone.

    Not a real upgrade error.

That is an innocuous error that only happens when you have no Bluetooth on the system, it’s noise, ignore it.

    Rogue109,

Perhaps you did not read the post properly. You CANNOT ignore it as you CANNOT upgrade when the driver stalls the installation. It exits.

I am currently trying with a BT USB device connected and removed a virtual manager (vmware) which also gives upgrade issues. Post more soon.

You can ignore the error message and try to find the real issue though.
