Ubuntu kills comp, grub reset screen only shows

After wanting to install ubuntu to my harddrive only (so that it can be used on multiple comps, not just mine) I asked on the ubuntu forum in this thread
[ubuntu] New installation - Ubuntu Forums
So now when I try to boot windows from my c drive all I get is a command prompt saying grub reset.
I have no idea what to do, please help!

    Hi

Welcome to Seven Forums and Happy New Year.:)
    Could you clarify the following?

    1. Are both Ubuntu and Windows on the same HDD or are they on different HDD's?
    2. What was the order of installation -was it Windows first then Ubuntu or the other way round?
    3. Can you log into Ubuntu? Are you able to mount and access Windows from within Ubuntu?

Also have a look at this SF tutorial - Dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu

If you want to revert to Windows altogether, then have a look at this tutorial - MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record

Look forward to your advice and regards

Thanks for your reply. Windows was installed first. They are not on the same hdd. Ubuntu does not work but I am on a live cd and I can access my windows files. Also I do not have a windows repair disc.

    Hi

Do you have your windows disk, the one for installation? All you need is any of the OEM or Retail versions of Windows 7.
Otherwise you could try disconnecting the physical drive on which Ubuntu is installed, boot the PC and then trying to access the recovery option for Windows once that has been done.

    regards

    Fixed

Finding research online, I found out that if you go into the terminal (ubunut live cd) and type in
    sudo apt-get install lilo
    sudo lilo -M /dev/sda mbr

    It fixes it.
