    Win7 on Sony Vaio VGN-FS550

    Hi all,
I have an old Sony Vaio VGN-FS550. I have enough Ram and the processor is strong enough for Win7.
When I installed WinXP, the video driver works fine (image of os in full screen). However, when I install Win7, the os screen becomes small regardless of driver, and resolution adjustment. The driver comes from Sony Vaio website.
Could you please show me how to make the screen full again? I have no image to show you. I have to re-install XP. I'd very much like to install Win7. Thanks for your help.

Did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to get a heads-up on any issues?

I don't see a Vista Display driver on the Sony Support Downloads webpage for your model. The Intel Chipset 82852/82855 Display drivers do not support anything later than XP, although you can try the Intel XP driver as well to see if you get better resolution.

You can also try running these XP drivers' extracted files .exe in XP Compatibility Mode

Did you get a newer Display driver via optional Windows Updates? This is how Win7 updates its drivers from those given by the installer.

Let us know the exact Display device and the driver versions you have tried. We can help you find another driver to try.

    Gregrocker,

    Thanks for your help.
The first os that came with the old Vaio is XP. I used the Video at Vaio website. The os image on the screen is small with XP, too. However, after I installed the video driver, WinXP works (full screen). When I install Win7, the os image on the screen remains small. So I gave up at that without going further. Thanks.

I added some suggestions if you still want to try to make the Display good enough to keep Win7.

    You're welcome.

Maybe you can get Standard VGA driver to show the full screen by playing with Resolution or DPI. All you really lose with it is Sleep and Hibernate if that isn't important to you.

I found a solution... All you have to do is go to intels website and download the Intel 915 gms chipset for windows XP then make sure you save it to your desktop... After that right click and change the compatabitily for windows XP.... Open it install it and restart... This worked for me.
