    Upgrade questions

My PC is running Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit).

I've been battling some redirect viruses, and malware.

In the process of removing these other problems have popped up --
    1. Programs in start menu empty, cannot open them.
2 Downloading programs for my school work are incomplete and will not open.

I think my only option is to reinstall , but I would like to upgrade to Pro.

If I understand correctly, if I do the online upgrade, the os will be new(fully funtional), but the viruses might still be there.

I plan on purchasing the backup disc to do a clean install if necessary.

Also, I plan on building a new PC later this year, can I use the backup disc and purchase a new key?

Is this preinstalled Win7 or retail - OEM, Upgrade or full?

If preinstalled I'd run full Factory Recovery or clean reinstall using the Product Key on COA sticker. Reinstalling Windows 7

You can then Anytime Upgrade to Pro and save a WIn7 backup image to use in place of reinstalls going forward.

If retail, you can do the same or buy/install Pro version and save your Home Premium license for use on another machine.

    Thanks for the reply.

Home premium on my pc I'm using now came pre-installed, a factory disc was not included, (e-machines).

    I did make a recovery disc(dvd) 1 and 2, right after I bought pc.
I thought there was an image put on system reserve at that time, but Ican't find it anywhere.

The upgrade to PRO is not purchased yet, and is from the Microsoft Student Discount website.

I was going to use the recovery disc but not sure wich one to put in first.

Try restarting the PC with each DVD in the drive to see which one starts up Factory Recovery.

There should also be a Recovery partition which can be run from boot using the hotkey given on first boot screen or in your Manual - which you can find on the eMachines Support Downloads webpage for your model.

First make a System Repair Disc - Create

If you'd prefer to clean reinstall with a Win7 Installation DVD without the factory bloatware tell us your bit version (32- or 64-).

    Thanks for the replies,
Did a restore to factory defaults using the eRecovery Management (no disc's needed).
Installed all 160++ updates and uninstalled all bloatware,
    Everything running smooth!
Only problem is drivers for my Asus sound card won't load and card is not being detected,
switched back to AC'97 sound, will deal with it later.
    Thanks again, Mark this Solved
