Moving users folder

I'm somewhat confused over correct way to achieve something.

I have only just upgraded to W7

Previously I had OS on my C drive and 'user' folders on a physically different drive.

I have done a little googling .. some results show multiple pages on text on how to do this, another use 'mlink'
another using robocopy & whole load of cmd line stuff, another says do it within users profile setting.

What is the simple way of moving the 'users' folder (with the number of sub user folders) to a different drive, and removing the original folders ... i.e. keeping the house clean.

Purpose is to keep user data such as my documents etc ... separate from ... so OS partition does not run out of space.

This is the method I used, and I believe the least likely to cause bad juju:

1. create a user folder on your secondary drive.
2. open your user folder (done by clicking on the arrow at the far left of the address bar, then selecting your name)
3. right-click on the first item then choose "preferences"
4. click on the "location" tab
5. enter the address of the new location. what I do is just copy the new user folder's address (EG: "D:/User/") to the clipboard, then highlight everything before the folder name and paste the new adders (EG: Default is C:/users/"username"/Desktop, highlight the "C:/users/"username"/" part and then ctrl+v)
6. click OK.
7. it will ask if you want to create that folder. click ok
8. it will ask if you want to move contents to the new folder. if you want to, then do that.
9. repeat steps 3 through 8 for all folders.

does that then move the logic as well .... so if a user goes to ave anything in his 'my documents' he gets the new location by default ?

I did this with Vista and it worked fine.

You can also simply add any folder to the relevant Library: Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums

Just please be careful with system restore. in preparation of reformatting my data drive I moved all of the folders back to the boot drive and deleted them from the secondary. then something gorked and I had to do a restore, but windows now thinks my Desktop etc are all on the secondary drive. They've basically been blasted to oblivion, with no hope of setting them back to the default folder.
