Imaging software has come on a lot since the days of Ghost 5 or whatever everyone used to use.
That is certainly true. In Vista I used Ghost14. It was a steep learning curve. The UI is not made for the faint at heart. There are certainly better options - and for free.

I have to say though, the Ghost help desk was always very helpful whilst I was struggling thru the steps.

Like I said, I'll have to try it to believe it

I have ATI 2010 and ATI 2012 (not installed yet) so I'll give it a try with 2010.
I'll take an image of my C: windows 7 Pro X64 boot drive and restore it to my H: partition.

If I understand what you have been saying. When I then boot the H: drive, it will be C: and everything should work as normal.

I don't use Acronis - I would imagine they have a mechanism for ensuring your reimaged o/s will boot from a different partition..

    Paragon and Macrium do.

Well, strangely enough, I just upgraded to 2012 from 2010 and I do not see any way to restore to a partition other than the one (or ones) the image was created from. I'll ask in their forum. If this is true then I will not be a happy camper.

Meantime I'll use Macrium to create the image from C: then restore to H: and see what happens.

Ya that is crazy. 1 of the whole purposes of making an image is so you can restore it on a new drive if yours dies.

I want to restore to the 2nd partition on a drive, not the root of the entire drive, and I suspect that is what is not possible. I've asked in the Acronis TI forum, will see kind of a response I get.
