Need help installing windows 7 (64) on an XP (32) system

    Hello,

I want to install windows 7 home premium-64 bit on my computer wich is currently running on windows xp-32 bit
I thought i could simply do it by booting from dvd an then do a format and installation of windows 7.
Strangely it does not recognize it as a bootable disc (the disc is recognized on my laptop so the disc should be fine) and when i try to install it by clicking "setup" it says "cannot install a 64 bit version on a 32 bit system" (something like that)

any ideas how to get windows 7 installed?

dont know if you need any specs but here they are:

    asrock p67 pro3
    i5-2500k
    8gb ddr3
    sata 2 disc
    sata lite-on dvd

thanks in advance for your help

Are you booting from the disc ? Did you place it in your dvd rom and did you get a message during POST to press any key to boot from dvd ?

i tried booting from disc, pressed a key to boot from dvd an then got a message that i needed to insert a bootable disc (or something like that)
then tried that same disc on the laptop to see if it was broken, but that went fine

when i insert old xp disc that also loads fine... so looks like the dvd station is fine. really odd

Well then, you do not have a bootable disc.

tried that at first, but the i got the message that i could not install 64 bit on a 32 bit system could have seen that one comming of course

so then i changed the boot sequence to dvd first and thought that would be all i needed to do.... but the disc will not setup windows 7, does nothing...
when i put the disc into the laptop if will start the windows 7 installation process just fine , laptop has windows 7 already installed so maybe that has something to do with it?

    thx for the replies

Has nothing to do with it.
What program did you use to create the disc?

Confirm ISO or download another. Where did you get Win7?

Burn with ImgBurn at 4x speed.
