Yes, you must point Easy to the smaller .wim file on board the Recov partition.

What other program does HP Mini Recov require to run it? HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You can also shrug off the industry's worst load of preinstalled crapware by following these Clean Reinstall steps.

Nah, it is not empty. Did you try to get at it by tapping F11 on boot.

If you ever have to reinstall, I would take an .iso from Digital River, burn that to DVD or a stick and install from there. That way you get a clean svelte system without all the bloatware from HP.

What do you mean there is no option to tap F11 at boot? If you have the key you can tap it, option or not. Do it repeatedly to see if it will respond. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts, more force, quicker hand, etc.

The files in the Recov folders are hidden at Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

You can try marking the Recov Partition active, rebooting to see if it will run. Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

The modern way to recover is to save a Win7 backup image when it's running best so that if Win7 becomes irreparable you can reimage HD or its replacement from the stored image in 20 minutes.

I would want a clean reinstall without the factory bloatware first.
