Windows 7 Home Premium on HP Mini311 Totally Corrupted

Hi,

I have an HP MINI 311 with Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit and the computer starts up fine but has tons of execute errors and doesn't display the desktop. I get environment error when trying to run programs and the shellexecex 203 error also. I have no recovery disk and recovery manager does not work. What is the best way to re-install my OS? The recovery disks you get online for recovery manager only fix startup problems which I don't have. Do I need to re-format and buy a new OS? Thanks

Hi Bob -

Since it doesn't appear you have functionality on the desktop to repair System files with SFC -SCANNOW Command, try booting the System Repair Disk to open a Command Line to run SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

If this fails you may need to disinfect before repairing System files. Try installing and running a full Scan with Malwarebytes from Safe Mode if necessary. If this fails download and burn to CD or write to flash stick Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper, boot to run a Full Scan.

If it cleans up major infection you may then be able to repair the System files and get some desktop functionality. If necessary you can run a Repair Install as a last resort before reinstalling.

Download and burn the latest WIn7 installer with SP1 ISO from here: Win7 Home Premium x86 SP1 English Official ISO download

Write to flash stick or burn to DVD using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.

The best way to reinstall your OS would be to download an ISO image of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (that is your OS from your system specs) from Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) « My Digital Life and burn it on a DVD. There are a number of other sites too from where you can get an official image.

Then you should clean install it on your computer and activate it with the Product Key that you should be having. If your's is a Laptop then the Key may also be stuck on its base. And this would be the best line of action to follow instead of trying to repair an already messed up system.
