    Dell Optiplex GX 280

    Has anyone installed Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex GX 280? I am trying to install and and I get as far as the initial "starting windows" where setup begins at, and I get

    STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

    Anyone know what is wrong?

    Press F8 during boot. Select Last Known Good Configuration. If this works, we will take it from there.

    How does that help? I don't want to go back to XP. I want to install W7.

    Am I missing something here?

    Two things you can do while you are waiting for a response is to fill in your system specs (lower left corner) so we know what kind of hardware you have and tell us more abt the failed install. were you tryying to upgrade from xp to win 7, do a vlean install. was that 32bit or 64?

    The specs are as follows:

    Intel Pentium 4, 3 GHz
    1.5 GIGS of Ram
    32 Bit.
    This PC is Generic, standard dell hardware.

    The error occurred when I was trying to do a clean install. I put the disk in and hit the key when it asked me if I wanted to boot from the CD. I hit a key, and then it showed the W7 boot GUI and said starting windows. The screen then went black, then all blue with the error codes from above.

    Thank you, Ken. I mixed this OP in with the Gateway (page file?) issue. My post is invalid and does not apply.

    @Nwebb - please provide your Dell service tag number. This will allow us to access Dell's public resources pertaining to your specific machine. Not your bank accounts. ;-)

    No Vista drivers, even. We might have to get medieval.

    I have done some reading. It is not impossible for this to be related to the DVD or the DVD drive. The problem is: I don't think this vintage Dell will boot from USB.

    We need another DVD burned, slowly. Do you have another DVD drive?
