    Welcome
You came to the right place. This software saved me when my computer froze during an upadate. I could not get back to the OS, no matter what. I am up and running again, due to this great, free software. Back up everything on an external, keep it up to date and you are good as gold.

The advice from Greg, may be another way to go, if you want to get rid or all the bloaware (pay for software that is on your computer) that only slows you down.

You can make or order Dell Factory Recovery disks. Look under Dell in Start>All Programs, or contact Tech Support. This is a backup to running Factory Recovery from its partition: Dell Restoring Your Computer“s Software to the Factory Settings

A better idea may be to backup a WIn7 System image externally so that you can revert to what you have now in 20 minutes should Win7 ever become irreparable or the HD dies: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup, or use free Macrium as Rich recommends. You want to save this backup image to another HD or an external HD as DVD's are not a practical method here.

Before capturing the image you might want to Clean Up Factory Bloatware to get the cleanest and leanest possible install to image.

You can also consider possible Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

There is a utility included with the system to make the Win 7 DVD and or save it to an ISO to be burned to a USB thumb drive. This utility can only make ONE (1) copy of the included OS so I suggest you use it to make an ISO file. If you never ran it and never created the DVD or ISO you still can. Look in the All Programs section under Dell.

Navigate to Start>All Programs>Dell DataSafe>Dell DataSafe Local Backup and follow the instructions.

You'll need three blank DVDs as the backup is approximately 12GB.

Well that is if he makes all the DVDs for everything. If he just make the one for the OS he'll only need one DVD. But then he should really create the ISO file that way he can burn it down anytime he likes and more then once.

If I recall correctly you can also make or save the other programs to either ISOs or to DVDs.

The method that Dell DataSafe uses is all or nothing.

It creates a backup image to restore the computer to the out-of-box factory state and you cannot pick and choose what to backup.

Not on my newest Dell Latitude E6420. You can/could choose what to image/burn. The OS was separate from the other installed Apps. Although I may have used a different feature of the DataSafe or it is different for enterprise type systems.

It probably varies from model to model. Certainly on the Dell XPS 8300 it's just a straightforward backup to factory state.

However, with this particular computer, I paid an extra £5, which gives me a Windows 7 DVD along with a separate driver/application DVD.
