How do I do a reinstall of Windows 7 with these 3 disks?

This is very frustrating. I got two DVDs and one CD from HP for my HP Paviollion Notebook. I have no clue how to do a reinstall of Windows 7.
Can anyone help me? I thought this would be easy. I was wrong.

This is what HP sent me.

1. Application and Driver Recover CD
2. System Recover DVD Windows 7 Home Premium 1
3. System Recover DVD Windows 7 Home Premium 2

Mind you my computer is not up and running with the wireless at this moment.
I really have to get the Windows IT stuff under my belt.

Disks 2 & 3 are likely the Recovery Disks although normally you would make them yourself. You would run them in order to restore to Factory Condition.

However there is a Recovery partition on HP's run by tapping the F11 key at boot, which is a more stable way to run Recovery and which I would try first so that if it should fail you would have a backup option with the disks - since if the disks fail you have no Recovery backup.

You also have the option to get a much cleaner reinstall without all of the HP bloatware using these steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything you need is in the blue link.

Backup and or copy any important files, documents, picture etc, that you don't want to loose to external media before you do anything. A factory restore will usually wipe out everything and reload a factory image.

Turn on your pc and put the DVD Windows 7 Home Premium Disc 1 in your dvd drive and restart the pc, just use the button.


When you get the message to boot from DVD press any key..... press any key on your keyboard. The install process will start. Pay attention to the screen. In a bit it will tell you to put System Recover DVD Windows 7 Home Premium 2 in the dvd drive. When it does, do it and it will finish the install. Take out the disc when it`s done.

Why do you need to do this anyway ?

Okay I got the restoration DVD to work. Guess I overcame my confusion. But what confuses me still, is the fact that is only used DVD 1 for the Windows 7 Restoration. It didn't ask for DVD 2.

The only way I got this to work was the find the restore option. I couldn't find it the regular way. The computer was overtaken by viruses.

I am going to use Norton again. It's giving me a 2009 version of Norton to purchase since that's the date we purchased the computer. I am sure the link will go to Norton's current version when I sign up.

You don`t need Norton. Just use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Both are free.

Using a restore point is not doing a fresh install so I`ve no idea what you did there. But if it`s working and your happy.:)

Agreed. If you're prone to infection you can add the real-time protection to Malwarebytes in addition to MSE.

Are you sure you weren't prompted for Disk2 during Factory Recovery? What happens if you put it in the tray to run it now? It might have software you want on it. No need to import any but what you want.
