Unable to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista home basic

Here are some of my system specs:
Windows VISTA home basic 32 bit OS
RAM: 3GB
HDD: 250GB
Intel Core 2 DUO 2.0GHz

Is there any specific specs you are looking at?

I seem to recall it putting those reports either on the desktop or at your root (e.g., C:\). You might want to see if anything's included in the file it spits out if you can find it.

It may be doing the common thing of simply telling you that you're losing things like Parental Controls and Windows Mail if upgrading from Vista. If that's it and you go to try again, it will simply proceed. Some people may simply not want to lose features like that and would put off upgrading.

You could also have something like antivirus or backup software that's in the way. If you haven't uninstalled whatever antivirus you're running on Vista, I'd do that at the minimum regardless.

I didn't choose to do custom install (clean) since windows compatability advisor shows i should be able to upgrade from 32 bit vista home basic to 32 bit windows 7 ultimate.

I haven't read this thread but can you "upgrade" from vista home basic to win ultimate? thats not an upgrade path im aware of. OTOH clean install is always the prefered method anyway

Hi poin2,
it does throw out a .htm log file (firefox) that has nothing in it. It's empty. Do you think it could be because IE is not the default browser?
I'd try with uninstalling trend micro that i use as my AV.
