    Moving 7 64-bit Pro to faster drive


    I recently purchased a 7200 rpm WD SATA drive and would like to migrate my Win 7 drive from a slower 5200 rpm Seagate SATA.

    Can I do this without reinstalling Windows? If I can migrate from one to the other, will there be any problems with validation?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Yes you can if everything is the same except the HD.

    If you register your WD drive at the official site, you can pick up a free copy of Acronis.

    (Its a stripped version for WD meant for cloning your old drive to the new one)

    Install it, and clone the drive to the new one.

    There should be no issue with Activation or validation. It will be a mirror copy.
    Worst case, it instals driver for the new HD and makes you reboot the 1st time you start Windows again.
