HELP How to create HP Win7 Home Premium installation or Boot Disc??

    Hi all,

Roughly almost 2 months ago I purchased this HP laptop (HP Pavilion g7 Notebook) for my wife. It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium (pre-installed) on the laptop, but there is no disc.

I need to know how to create or make a "bootable or installation" disc of this Win 7 Home Premium from this laptop in case things goes wrong (meaning if I have to re-formatted or re-installed from fresh). Please someone help me and direct me to the right place. Your help is greatly appreciated.

OS: Win 7 Home Premium SP1 (64 bit)
Laptop: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC
Processor: Intel (R) Core, i3 2330M CPU @2.20GHz (quad cores)

    Hello Dasviv,

The link from HP below can help show you how to create a set of factory recovery discs. :)

You can also download a Windows 7 Home Premium ISO file from mydigitallife.info and then burn the ISO to a disc.

That disc is a Windows 7 Home Premium installation disc that can be activated with your existing Product Key. Any installation from this disc will give you a standard Windows 7 Home Premium installation----unlike recovery discs, which would return your PC to the way it was when purchased, including whatever applications it may have included.

Use whichever gets you where you want to go. If you chose to download the ISO, be sure to get the exact version you now have--32 bit, 64 bit, English, whatever it is.

My HP Recovery Manager is a little different (it's Create Recovery Media) and I don't see any "Recovery Disc Creation". I will look around and try to create a disc via my HP Recovery Manager to see how things goes.

    Thanks for your helps.

I can post a pic of my HP Recovery Manager comparing to the link/one you suggested if that make any sense.

Thank you. I will look into that site.

So the key is where I can look under "my computer" and "properties", Windows Activation, Product ID right? Just making sure that's all.

Installing from the DVD made by burning the ISO image shall give an absolutely clean install instead of all the bloatware that HP is famous for piggy-backing with there recovery disks.

I'm not sure what you are asking.

If you are asking about the Product Key, it should be on a sticker on the computer itself.

The Product Key is NOT the same as the Product ID.

The Product Key should be a series of 25 characters in groups of 5, like this:

    xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

This Product Key is what you pay for when you buy Windows. It is a unique number. You should copy it down somewhere for safekeeping in case the sticker gets worn and becomes unreadable. You cannot activate Windows without it.

If by any chance you use a program named Tuneup Utilities then you can see the Product Key repeat Product Key (different from Product ID) in this program's System Information under the Windows Tab.

As yours is a Laptop, the Product Key would be found where ignatzatsonic has indicated. But in an unlikely case if you are unable to find it there or elsewhere, then I would strongly recommend that you download and temporarily install Tuneup Utilities trail version and get the Product Key. Please then keep it very, very safely as ignatzatsonic has suggested. You can uninstall Tuneup Utilities after that, if you like.

    Good luck.

The Product ID is NOT the Product Key.

The Product Key should be on a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker on the underside of the laptop and is the one you need to use if you clean install Windows and consists of five groups of five characters, which is a mix of letters and numbers, e.g. AAA12-BB4BB-CC73C-DDD1D-2EEEE.

The Product ID tells Microsoft whether you have a retail version of Windows or an OEM version and is in the following formats:

    Retail: xxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx

    OEM: xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx

Generally speaking, a retail version of Windows gets you support from Microsoft, whereas support for an OEM version should be provided by the manufacturer or system builder.

For recovery disc creation, check here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...n&cc=us&dlc=en or use the link that was given to you in Brink's reply in post #2.

Everything you need is here to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Until then Create a set of operating system recovery discs so you also have a path back to the factory preinstall, then follow these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware - Windows 7 Forums
