Just did a clean install a week ago ... taken days to get everything up and running .. really don't want to do it again.

I really don't know how an active User account could be hidden in User Accounts.

Are either of the other two accounts showing as an Admin account type?

The 'active account' Jack.Jack-Home-PC is mine and administrator.

The other account 'Jill' is non administrator

The account listed 'Jack' is empty ... nothing in folder

So in Control Panel>User Accounts click on Jack and Delete the account. Allow it to save any files to desktop just in case something is in there you need.

Then click on Jack.Jack-home-PC to Rename to Jack.

This is the problem ... user account (ctl panel) it dopes not show my account as jack.jack.home-pc

it only shows 2 accounts Jack (administrator) and Jill

I'm beginning to think it it something to do with workgroups ...

Possibly. Do you have another computer by that name with that account name?

If so Turn off sharing in Network and Sharing Center>Advanced Options on the remote computer to see if it goes away.

But I'd copy your user Folders into the other Jack (Admin) first.

No .. no other computers connected to this.

In the 'Jack' users folder there is nothing, it's empty

This is what started me trying to solve this ... I expected all my stuff to be in there ... as that is what 'appears' I log into on start up (only 'Jack' offered) yet all my stuff is actually in jack.jack.home-pc
The user folder C:\users \ Jack is empty

It would have to be a network listing if it's not listed in User Accounts.

Turn off all sharing in Network and Sharing to be sure.

It says "this computer is joined to a home group"

    Is the the problem?

On boot up there are 3 accounts ... Guest, Jack & Jill
    Jack is administrator.
In users and groups only these are listed.

In C:\users ... there is Jack, Jill, and "Jack.jack.home-pc" each with a 'lock symbol
There is also Public & default (hidden)

All of my files are going into "Jack.Jack-home-pc"

If I go into Jill, or Public I see standard folder structure .... if I go into "Jack" it is empty.

All programs are by default putting things (i,e saved mail, doc, bookmarks) into C:\users\Jack.Jack-home-pc

It's possible the active User folder is from another computer on the network. In order to find out you need to disconnect from the network to see.
