Do you have a DVD with Windows 7 on it? You must have. With it in the drive when booting you should get a message saying 'Press any key to boot from CD/DVD...', you only have about 4 seconds to make a choice so just press a key when it appears.

If you haven't got a DVD then how did you install Windows 7 in the first place?

put in the Win7 DVD, reboot

go into the BIOS and make the cd/dvd drive the first boot device

or press ESC just after you turn the computer on and then select cd/dvd from the menu.

Which disc are you using to run the repair install from that is giving you the error? ie Vista or Seven?

I've never quite trusted the repair install option in Win 7. Im sure that it works just fine, but there's always that niggling possibility in the back of my head.. I would rather do a clean re-install and eliminate all doubt ... opinions and mileage will vary ...

    still epic failing

I use the on dvd repair feature not the vista one. and this is the 3rd clean reinstall. if i fudge it by it telling im going to restort option then cancel back it will let me use the repair feature, i have gotten it to run but i still cant get to boot as windoss 7. It keeps wanting to boot as a vista os. I thought that maybe the installer wasnt fully formating the drive and maybe leaving something behind. So i tried using my windows xp disk to formate my hard drive. but when i hit enter it tells me that it cant find the hard drive.
