Good to hear ignatzatsonic's suggestion woked John. Still odd why it hadn't done it from the start though. Take that rotten keyboard and throw it on the train tracks. Never dawned it could be at the root of your install problems. I think mine is bad two sometimes it'll misspell words and won't capitalise.

While the one-time boot menu is accessed with F12 on many Gigabyte boards, F9and F5 are two others I seen on other brands.

Have found the problem - a faulty 2.0 USB socket on the back panel that I had the keyboard plugged into.

I am really appreciative to everyone who chipped in as I would have been none the wiser if it had not been that I couldn't get shift+F10 to work on the main keyboard and just plugging in another spare KB into a front panel USB port had it working.

I am a little - erm no very embarrassed as I am always telling others to look for the simple stuff first and have been caught out myself

Machine with the Samsung now approaching the speed of light LOL!!

Once again thanks to all I have learnt a valuable lesson and I hope some other not so savvy members such as myself have learnt something too.
