Saving pictures and documents - going to two different locations - why

I just purchased a new desktop computer system. I am using Windows 7.

I'm trying to think how to describe this so that it makes sense.

I am the only person who uses this computer. The staff member who transferred my data from my damaged computer to the new one apparently gave the computer my full first name ... and then gave my "nickname" the Admin role. Now I appear to have two My pictures and my documents in the library. My photos are scattered between the two My Pictures. When I save something to my pictures ... it doesn't end up where I expect it to be. It could be in either My Pictures.

Not sure if that makes any sense at all to you ... I don't want two sets of pictures and two sets of documents. When I save a picture I want it to go to the same place every time .... unless I designate it somewhere else.

I'm just not sure what exactly to do to meld the mess all into one default identity.

Before I start deleting/moving anything I need to understand why my pictujres are going to one area sometimes ... and sometimes the other.

Is this clear as mud so far?

    Clear as mud.

    No, not actually that bad.

    First,here's my recommendation:
Move everything you want over to your admin account.
Empty all of the folders in the other account.
    Delete the other account.

When you get that far then let me know.
The easiest way to move, not necessarily the sophisticate way:
Format a usb stick as Fat32.
    go to the non-admin account
Move the stuff you want to keep to the fat32 stick.
sign out and sign in to the admin account.
Move the stuff from the fat32 stick to the appropriate folder in your admin account.
Go back and forth like this until all is in that admin account.

Go back to the non-admin account and empty all of your folders here, in other words, delete everything left in the folders.
    Empty the Recycle bin.
From the non-admin account, run CCleaner.
From the non-admin account, run CLEANMGR.exe
from the non-admin account, run TFC TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums Oops, I think you can't do much if you aren't running as admin.
    from the non-admin account:
    Win | type %temp% | enter | cTrl + A to select all | Ctrl + D to delete your selection
Once again empty the recycle bin.

Go back to the admin acccount and delete the non-admin account.

Let me know when you get this far.

    Arggh!!

What I didn't mention is there appears to be a Pictures AND a My Pictures and a public pictures ... in this Windows 7 invention called Library. The first two are where my pictures are going. Some to both. Some to one or the other.

Does that help you suggest a much simpler solution?

    Please say "yes!"

OMG!!!! I'd rather eat glass than go through what you've just described!!! It's your mother speaking here!

I get a headache just reading those instructions! I swear, between Windows 7 and Windows Live and the mess it's made of my once beautiful, functioning, simple system ... I am soooo kicking myself for not spending the extra and buying an Apple.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my query.

First Stop looking in the Library folder area. That is just a hard link to other folders on your computer. You could/can place any number of folders or files in the Library area and not move them from where they are, they are just shortcuts to the location of the original file.

Do as Karlsnooks suggests but not from the Library area as that will only move shortcuts and not the REAL files.

The library is really just a collection of pointers to places and doesn't really contain folders and files directly.

Thanks guys! I finally realized that what I was concerned about was really just the new Windows Library system in action. I could not figure out why my files are appearing in so many different locations. I just bought this computer and have yet to read ALL the instructions. I really didn't expect there would be something that I didn't do automatically.

Since writing my initial question I have read (far too much)about the new library system till my head hurts. Yes, I know you all think it's wonderful and wonder how you ever got along without it ... but I am soooo NOT in that camp. For me it is simply computer clutter. My computer needs are so basic and orderly. I know (knew) where everything is (was) and I was quite happy to leave it there, without adding several more options to also check for it ... just to make certain any editing I did got to all copies of the file ... not that I don't trust your explanations. Yes. I KNOW nothing has actually moved! I get it!

If I ever change my mind about the continually more convoluted path computer designers are going ... I will eat crow and you can say: "I told you so." They obviously didn't grow up with an understanding of the KISS principal.

I actually detest the Library system. I see no logic in it. I know where my files are. I put my files where I want them.

So not everyone thinks they are grand.

It's just a faster way sometimes to get into My Documents, My Pictures, etc.

If you have those on another HD or computer on network you can link them by rightclicking the folder and when you click on the library they will be included.

For example I have my Downloads spread out over 2-3 computers in the house right now so if I click on Downloads library it opens Downloads folders on all of those computers and my backup drive if it is plugged in. Then I can move them around like shuffling cards.

When I first saw it I also thought I'd never use it but then there came a problem with linking User folders to another HD which since has caused me to only include files or folders in the related Library which is much easier and never presents issues like moving User shell folders can.
