Windows 7 key bound to DVD?

I have installed Windows 7 from a DVD from my friend. he deleted the ei.cfg-file but in the Setup i werent asked which version i want to install .. but the headline of th license-agreement said Ultimate x64 (what i wanted to install) ... so i went on! the installation worked and now i want to activate my licens but it doesnt work! it says that the key is no real key! i have controlled the key several times and it is the right i got and i am sure (120%) that the key is for Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) german!
I dont know what to do ... is it possible that the key is bound to the dvd?

What build of windows did you install? (7600?) Unless you downloaded it from technet or similar there are no keys that work, in english or german. Please tell us more

Ken is right... I think you are trying to use a RC key on a RTM build... It'll never work...

If it did work, a lot of users would be happy.

Is it remotely possible that the iso is 7100_RC (no longer available for DL) ?

    Which allows installation, since:
i have controlled the key several times and it is the right i got and i am sure (120%)
but the "On-line Activation" won't work, since its no longer officially 'available for DL'....
    Just my 2 ¢

If you ment that you can not activate Windows 7 RC, I believe you still can. They only removed the ability to download it, not activate it.

Though the question here is where did the key being used come from. :|

Lotta people would like to know that, especially since he 'controlled it' several times. :)

He has yet to tell us which w7 version, though..

Your problem, as described, is better addressed directly through MS.
