Hello Tippoppa,
Did you use step 4 and the note under it in the tutorial below?
Did you use a installation disc (media) for the same edition of Windows 7 that you currently have installed?
Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn
Did you check this tutorial?
You need to have your computer switched on with the Windows DVD in the disc drive then click the Windows setup.exe file, as described in this tutorial.
Repair Install
More to the point, what problems are you experiencing that makes you think you need to carry out a repair install?
I dont understand that tutorial, I have windows 7 installed so when I click upgrade I get an error saying windows 7 is already installed.
How do I get around that error?
(Yes the installation media a disc is the same one I use to install windows initially)
You likely need the latest Win7 installer with SP1 to run the Repair Install. Download your licensed version from Digital River and burn to DVD using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.
what if I dont have a disc to download?
I thought this should be easy it seems well kind of complicated.
isnt there a button I can just hit for repair install?
Yes, from the Win7 desktop click Install Now on a Win7 Installation DVD with SP1, then Upgrade.
Do you plan to answer SeaVixen's question about what the problem is since you might not even need a Repair Install?
my computer shuts off when playing games. Is not a heating issue, that I know of.
replaced vid cards mobo everything anyways.
I do not understand and it confuses me.
You are saying I need to download a cd? I have the one the computer came with though, is this not good enough?
Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which work up to a Repair Install. You want to establish a clean boot, check the logs (especially Performance) to see if there are events around the time of the shutdowns, utilize the System Resources built in, test your hardware. Take all the time you need and ask back any questions to get them done correctly.
The Win7 DVD you have may be before Service Pack 1 came out so it cannot be used for a Repair Install. But I provided you with the Win7 installer ISO to burn a DVD which should work if that becomes necessary.
However running a Repair Install without working up to it through the Troubleshooting steps is jumping the gun.

Why are you trying to do a repair install ? If you want to do a clean install just drop your W7 dvd in and delete your partition and install W7. You will loose everything on that partition so back it up b4 you start.
