How to clone boot drive with read errors?

I can boot up ok. But the boot drive makes clicking sound sometimes and makes the computer slower, especially when waking up from a sleep.

I tried using Acronis to clone the drive. It crashed as soon as the drive makes the first clicking sound and nothing is cloned.

Since I can boot from the drive, if I use windows explorer to copy all the good files including the hidden files to a new drive, is there a way to then "sys" the new drive like in windows XP to make it bootable into windows 7? All I need is a way to create or copy the boot sector, right?

Have you already rejected the idea of a clean install onto the new drive?

Will Acronis let you make a full backup(image) without crashing?
    Or
Can you make a image with Windows 7 built in program?

I think it's a mechanical error, you should NOT use your drive again and go to a store that specializes in this kind of stuff. They will check your drive and make a clone on a new drive.
