Asus EEEPC with no system disc - hard drive upgrade

I want to format and 0 write and wipe the entire hard drive in an Asus EEEPC with no system disc and re-install windows 7 home premium.
The windows registration number is on the back of the computer.

Did not come with a windows disc or recovery disc from the factory, IE windows 7 home pro was pre-installed.

    I created a system recover boot disc/CD.

This machine has no CD/DVD drive, but I do have a USB CD/DVD drive.

If I format and write the drive, but leave the partitions will I be able to re-install this version of windows that came with the machine ??

    Thanks

Yes, you will be able re-install the same version of that windows using this following tutorial:-

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

    Hope that helps!

Does the hard drive have a recovery partition? If so, back that up to a flash drive or external hard drive first, then wipe the drive, restore the recovery partition then use it to reload Win 7.

If that is not doable or not what you want, you can follow the instructions here: Clean Install Windows 7

You can download a legal copy from here: Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) « My Digital Life

Make sure you get the same version you have, Home, Pro, Ultimate, X86 or X64.

Edit: Curious, why do you want to wipe the drive?

Create an Asus EeePC System Recovery USB disk as a backup, then boot into Asus Factory REcovery via F8 to see if it gives you a formatting option which is sufficient before recovering.

If not then you can wipe the HD first using WIn7 installer written to flash stick, access Command Line at first screen after booting using Shift + F10 then run Diskpart Clean Command .

Then either run Recovery from stick or Clean Reinstall depending upon which install you think purchaser would prefer. They may want it factory condition with a Recovery partition.

    Made a recovery disc.
Made a windows 7 home pro disc per the link.

After the wipe do I start with the recovery disc or the windows 7 disc.

Depends on whether you think restoring to factory condition with a Recovery partition will be more valuable to a purchaser than a Clean Reinstall. You can always provide them with both installers.

Recovery is known to fail sometimes and you only have the one method if you wipe the HD, so keep that in mind.

I would prefer to restore the factory state of possible.

So would I start with the recover disc ??

Unless you want to settle for the simple formatting it does when you run Recovery from it's F8 link at boot.

If you want the Diskpart Clean wipe then you'll need to use the Recovery disks. Have you tested that it will boot from stick, or do you have a DVD drive to run it?
