    product key problem

I am attempting to install the Windows7 Release Candidate on a Toshiba G50 laptop. Everything goes well until I reach the First Use stage.

When I respond to the instruction to enter the Product Key for the Vista Ultimate operating system that is installed on the omputer, I get a message saying "Invalid Product Key". It is ABSOLUTELY the product key on the sticker on the base of the computer.

Can anyone offer me advice about what to do next? Is there a way to have the computer tell me what the product key of the installed software is?

hi kamai and welcome to sevenforums,

your vista product key will only work for vista.

you need to get a windows 7 key from microsoft - i believe they are still dishing them out here - all you need is a 'live' account.

Hi kamai, welcome to the forums.

+1 MM, Vista keys will not work on an OS that is NOT Vista

The downloads of the RC have been stopped but they are still handing out keys

    Windows 7 Release Candidate

You will need a Windows Live account or I can request a key for you & PM it to you

Also just leave the key blank for now, install. Then use the re-arm tutorial for 30 days till you can buy the Public release.

Thanks everyone. My problem seems to be that I am doing a custom install in a new partition, so I need a new product key. The instructions that came with the Win7 download say to look for the sticker under the notebook, but I guess that is only relevant for an upgrade install where my Vista is being overwritten-- this isn't clear from the installation instructions.

Orbital Shark, I would be grateful if you would help me in that way.

    I much appreciate everyone's assistance.
