Install Windows 7 on external hard drive using Bootcamp

How can I install Windows 7 on my external hard drive using Bootcamp on my Mac?

Do not say it would be slow. I installed Mac OS X on it and it works just as fast as on my internal drive and there are no problems at all.

The Bootcamps I've encountered run Win7 poorly.

MS works hard to keep their OS's off of external media since they could then be moved around at will and would not hold legal activation. The bottleneck is mainly USB2. Try USB3. Win8 is being designed to run on it.

It is connected with FireWire 800, not USB. Apple does not have a problem with that, so why does Microsoft?

You would have to ask them.

It will install with eSATA, I've not heard either way on Firewire 800. You can try it. Let us know how it goes, including any verbatim error message.
