Windows 7 Built-In Administrator Account Profile Corruption.

Help.

After a failed attempt to migrate my Users directory 'off-SSD', I have finally restored my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit to normality,

HOWEVER,
the built-in administrator account no longer connects to its profile, and throws up error messages.

At the moment, the account connects to a default profile, which I guess is a normal fall-back.

Is there anyway to re-build/restore the built-in Admin account? I've tried Safe Mode, Restore Points (which failed) and renaming.

I can still login happily to the account.

Any help welcome.

In Win 7 the Built In Admin account is set to Off. So are you talking about YOUR Named Admin account, the one you created when you first installed Win 7.

No, I'm talking about the built-in Admin account. The Built In Admin account is set to ON. When the SSD transfer failed, I could restore everything except its ability to logon to its own profile.

Hence, the in-built admin account can be logged into, but it always goes to a default/temporary profile (black background etc). No access to documents/music directories etc.

You have corrupted the hidden Admin account. I would Clean Reinstall following the steps in the blue link to get a perfect reinstall according to best practices. Unplug all other HD's during reinstall.

In the future, only copy User folders to the data partition, then rightclick each to add to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums. Once these show up in the library, you can delete the content of the C User shell folder, but not the folder itself.

A Repair Install might work since it won't carry over corrupt System settings in most cases.

However in the time it reinstalls the OS in place, you can have most of the Clean Reinstall done and be pacing your Updates and program reinstalls to check for performance changes to get it perfect, then capture a backup image so you never have to reinstall again.
