Antman he mentioned that NTLDR came up. Since the Vista installer ran and failed that would mean that the bootloader is a little messed up right now which is fine. The issue I see here is that the Windows 7 DVD wasn't even booted...it skipped over it and tried to boot an OS. Bad Windows 7 disc or drive?
Not if the laptop is set to, or instructed to, boot from the DVD. On a Dell, press F12 to select boot device.

If DVD is selected, and the error appears, it means the DVD is not bootable.
Exactly what I was implying (if that wasn't clear). Either the disc is bad or wasn't bootable to begin with

It is an image from Technet. The laptop is set by default to boot from CD/DVD but I will see if F12 causes it to read the image on the drive.

OK...looks like a bad image. The 32-bit version image won't boot but the 64-bit (which I have on another PC) does boot. I will reimage it at a slower speed and try again tomorrow. Thanks so much for the help!!!!!

Thanks to all above for your help. The DVD/CD drive turned out to be failing. I loaded my image onto a USB drive and installed from there. All set
