Windows 7: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate existing"

13 Aug 2012   #31

It's a high-end Asus Zenbook which comes with onboard SSD and HD. He apparently swapped the HD for another SSD.

Specs here:

Looks like it's made to put the OS and programs on SSD, data on spinner.

I agree Partition Wizard is an excellent tool and I use it but it is not needed to create an Extended partition / Logical drives anywhere needed, that can be done in Windows diskpart, from the Windows desktop; have a look at Method One of this tutorial linked below.

Thank you Ted for reminding us that Logical partitions can be formatted manually using the Command Line without having to install Partition Wizard: Partition / Extended : Logical Drives - Windows 7 Forums

Windows 7 Starter 32bit

I had the same problem and this is how I solved it. (Now I tried 2 different solutions at the same time and I am not sure which one actually solved the problem. So let me mention both approaches.)

1. Instead of using an automated solution like WiNToBootic to create the bootable USB thumb drive I used the most commonly used manual method.

2. I noticed that the thumb drive was formatted using FAT32. Which I reformatted using NTFS before making it bootable and copying the Windows 7 setup files into it.

Hope this will help if you are struggling with the same issue.
