I think I know why it might have shown a wallpaper and mouse.
Usually when I have a disk that can be booted off, upon startup a black screen shows that says at the bottom "To boot from CD push any key..."

The way that I booted from the CD before, I had to go into the Boot Menu from the Motherboard screen on startup, as after multiple restarts, the black screen that I usually see was not there.

In bios setup, is your boot order set to:

    CD/DVD 1st

    HD 2nd

    etc, etc

    The BIOS screen is ordered:

    Floppy
    HDD
    CD
With a yellow arrow pointed at HDD obviously showing that the HDD is the first boot selection.

I tried once again to install, same problem. But here's something that I found that looks like it could answer my questions. As to how to fix the problem, I am not quite sure.

Were you connected to the internet to get updates during the install ?

Do you know how to enter the bios setup of the computer by hitting the DEL key or one of the Function keys for your particular computer ? Then usually you can change the boot order there.

Okay. But would that address the install issue in terms of actually getting somewhere instead of just a wallpaper and mouse?
