My brand new Acer Aspire Desktop PC does not recognize any keyboard.

It is model number AM3970-EB22P. I bought it earlier today from Best Buy and here is the link to it:

My problem is that after turning on the power for the very first time, it will not recognize my keyboard. I have several different keyboards and I tried them all- including the Acer keyboard that came with the PC.

Before turning on the power, I plugged in both an HDMI connection to my TV as well as a DVI connection to an Acer 23" monitor.

It took me a while to figure out that it defaulted to the HDMI connection. I started out by looking at my monitor and couldn't figure out why there was no activity on the monitor. But once I switched the TV input to "HDMI 1", I saw the output was displayed on my TV.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to recognize any keyboard although it does make a "clicking" sound when I press keys on the keyboard.

I tried to press WIN+P to change the HDMI output to duplicate both the TV and the monitor but it seems to default to "side by side" and the only thing that I can think to do now is to pull out the power cord plug and try to re-boot with just the monitor connected and without the HDMI connection.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Hello.

It seems the sensible thing to do is take it back to the seller and let them sort it while it's under warranty.

In order to power off, I had to press and hold the Power button.

After powering off and then powering back on with only one of the two connections (HDMI and DVI) the keyboard was recognized just fine - no problem at all.

The problem seems to be that the PC cannot cope with both an HDMI connection and DVI connection present and active. It seems to insist on only one or the other.

I don't know why. It doesn't make sense to me. I would assume it would simply default to one of the two. But it doesn't.

Navigate to Device Manager, check that keyboard and usb drivers are functioning. If not, uninstall them and reboot to reinstall.

You can temporarily use the on-screen keyboard in Control Panel>Accessibility.

If this isn't an easy fix, I would also take it back for another model.

Thanks very much. Both keyboards are working fine now (I have my old USB keyboard and the new USB keyboard that came with the PC both plugged in and both work fine). I will unplug and remove the new keyboard as I find its layout very difficult to work with.

I did try to use the on-screen keyboard yesterday and found it very bizarre because the resolution of my TV was not set properly and so it was very difficult to figure out how to start the on-screen keyboard. I hope I never have to use it again.

All is working well for now. I will now mark this thread as "Solved" and thank you again.
