By the way, the best guide is on this site:

Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP
That makes sense - I reformatted with boot disk so that must have changed it into a logical partition.

I followed the instructions but after the boot disk copied the files across and rebooted I was left with a flashing cursor and a black screen. I left for around 20 minutes but no change, and rebooted, and same....

Any ideas what to do this time?

Thanks

boot disk or boot disc?

What are your system specs? If you have the right processor you can just use virtual XP mode inside of Windows 7.

Windows Virtual PC: Home Page
I just meant the Windows CD lol.

My system can handle virtual XP but I need OS actually installed because the program I use has to restart with XP on too.

I ran 'startup repair' and got back on to Windows, but no XP again.

use EasyBCD to fix that. The startup repair cannot handle such advance tasks.

I found an explanation on how to use EasyBCD to do it but now I can't get it running.. I get a 'The application failed to initialize error..' (0xc000007b). Someone suggested it could be due to .net framework not being installed but it was, and I even uninstalled and reinstalled it. I also uninstalled and reinstalled EasyBCd..

Any ideas on this?!

yeah, you need the proper version of the .net framework 2.0 or higher.

I have installed on my computer versions 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, and 3.5 SP1

I also have the latest EasyBCD 2.0 beta 64 that was released today.
