Windows 7 won't boot past the loading screen
Hi,
My problem is that windows 7 wont get past the loading screen when its loading the OS. I have noticed that it will work when i have only 2GB(one stick) in but when i try to put all 8GB(4 sticks) in, it wont work. This same thing happened when i was trying to install windows 7 from a fresh install. I would really like to get this problem solved, so if anyone has some advice. Please let me know. Please & Thank You, Vince |

Hello there, Madog Welcome to the Se7enforums!
You would think that little over 2gb-3gb problem seen with the 64bit Vista would have been solved for 7 which for most it has. I run the 64bit 7 RC with 4gb without a glitch! With the larger number of dimms however you may have run into some bad memory which would be a cause to consider since the 64bit 7 supports a larger amount of ram over that seen with the 64bit predacessor. One fast way to at least isolate the one or more bad dimms if that's the case would be trying the other two you removed without the working pair in. If you mixed pairs of dimms by a different brand seeing a different timings that will cause problems. |

I put each stick in one at a time and they all worked. Then i started putting two sticks in at a time and it worked. Then when i put three sticks in(6GB) it wouldn't go past the loading screen. The animation wouldn't come up or sometimes it would come up but then hang.

When people were seeing all these problems with Vista the MS advice was to removed all but 2gb until Windows was on and running good. Then you would add the other dimms back in for the larger total on the 64bit editions there. But you already have 7 on which is the item there.
Did you buy all of the dimms at the same time or buy one pair separate from the other? You may have ended up with a mislabeled dimm if none are fould to be defective which is one reason why a good run of memtest or another good memory stress tester for each dimm would be a good idea there. If one of the 3 you just tried is a different type like a mix of 2 perfomance dimms with a standard module that will cause problems. One idea would be taking the 4th dimm and swapping out each of the others one at a time to see if you see results without a particular dimm present. It's a bit of work but would isolate a problem dimm. |

I bought them as a set. They are the Geil Black Dragon Series, running at 800 Mhz at 2V. They all worked just fine when i was running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit and with XP Pro 64-Bit.

When you first installed the previous two 64bit editions of Windows how long ago was that? A dimm can develop faults after a period of time since memory is one hardware stressed a lot along with the cpu.
The other question that comes to mind first however would be the method you are using to install 7 may have a problem where it's not memory but OS related from a possible bad install. You would see that if there's a problem with the dvd or usb key used for example even if the iso is intact. |

The Xp was over a year ago and the Vista was last saturday. The RAM is only 6 months old.
The problem happens with a DVD and a usb key. Guess i could try to get my hands on another ISO and see if that works. btw, thank you for all the help. |

Hope that all it will turn out to be there. You run into a few frisbees once in awhile surprizingly with any brand blank media if you don't have a glitch with the program used or the iso itself.
I've been running both the 32bit and 64bit beta builds then RCs later with the 4gb here where only one of the 3 OS drives is best used for storage only due to problems seen with the programs installed regardless of which build was on! Hope to hear some good news from you later! :) |

This can also have to do with the memory settings used. With 8GB it's easy to create a voltage short fall. Win 7 seems a bit more demanding in certain areas involving memory settings. I would shore up the chipset voltages in bios to fix this problem. I've seen it work a million times with 8GB already.

Im gonna get another copy tonight. I will post back when i have installed or tried to install the new copy with all 4 sticks in.
I already tried the voltage settings. I bumped up the voltage on the NB and RAM. |
