The video crashes just before the screen where I have to input my username. When the os is loading, I see the "vista style" moving slider instead of the new 7 one.

I waited on the blank screen about 5 minutes after all HDD activity has stopped. I guess I have to find someone with a monitor.
The Vista slider appears in some cases.
Mine took at least 30 minutes in that "hybernation" state. You might just want to wait longer.

I managed to get a monitor. Install completed and the first update that the OS did was the video drivers.

HDMI out now works, but still haven't fix my original problem that led me to install 7:

At least, now I have win7 on my media server and enjoying the homegroup feature with my laptop!
