Reformatting from Windows 7 to Windows 7

    Hello.

I was wondering, if I buy Windows 7, and install it once, then I feel the need to format it which I usually do, would I need to buy a new serial to format it or would I use the same serial?

    Thank You.

No need to buy a new product key as long as you stay on the same PC (same mobo to be exact).

So I can basically buy a Ultimate Edition CD, and Serial, and I can use that serial every format, as long as I use it on one computer?

Hello Qubic, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Even better, if it's a retail version of Windows 7, you can also install it on another computer using the same product key number as long as you uninstall it from any previous computer first. You will most likely need to do a phone activation though when installing on a new computer.

If you reinstall it on the same computer, then you would be able to activate online normally with the same product key number. :)

That's how it's always been, with all versions of Windows.

DeaconFrost - would you please review the question and consider your response?

Hint: OEM, Retail - or just see Brink's valid response.

I'll stick by my response, that the same key could always be reused on the same system. The OP was asking about reformatting on the same system. So, given that, it doesn't matter what the license type is....it can always be reused.

I'm going by the OPs question, and that's what my answer is for. The OP asked a follow up question, but has stated that it would be on the same system. Read posts 1 and 3 together.
