Windows 7: Struggling with USB Install for Windows 7 Starter

08 Nov 2012   #11

windows 7 starter

I had to put it on the shelf for a few weeks. In the last few days I've been at it again, and I'm happy to report success! I was able to install Windows 7 with only a minor struggle. Thanks again for all your help.

The remaining issue is that the wireless and volume buttons are not working properly with Windows. On this machine they both have indicator lights on the dedicated key (white is on and red is off), but they stay red no matter what I do. Wireless does not work, but the machine does make sounds (like when I restart).

I went ahead and installed Linux side by side with Windows, and found that when I am running Linux I can turn on the wireless with the button, like normal. Volume works, but the red light will not go off. Any ideas? Seems like it might be a driver issue? But why does it work with Linux and not with Windows?

Any indication of problems in Device Manager (yellow marks)?

HAve you done a Windows Update? If not, do so.

Win 7 Pro 64 Bit

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to post on it.

I had messed with this HP Mini for 2 days now trying to install 7 after I replace the HD that had crashed. I had the same driver error talked about here.

I was using the only USB on the left side of the system, after reading I switched t the right side and 30 minutes later it is done and running windows. I had not even thought about one of the ports being a 3.0.

I did make sure it was set to boot to the HD first in the bios.

Thank all of you for the great advice. Time to take this one back to the customer, nice little $100 there, maybe going to go to Red Lobster for dinner. LOL

Thanks again.
