Want to clean install Windows 7 Student on a new harddrive.

Hey everyone, for some reason this is a bit complicated for me so maybe you guys can help and clear this up.

I have my old hard drive that had Windows XP on it. I installed Windows 7 over it and it was a student upgrade version I bought. Everything is fine but I'm finding out that that hard drive now has sector errors and a few other things wrong with it. I also have a 2TB hard drive that I want to install Windows 7 but this time just a clean install.

Can I install the Windows 7 Professional Student Upgrade on my new hard drive that is a fresh brand new hard drive?

Disconnect all other HD's except target HD, boot the installer, if there's no other OS seen by installer on the HD it will not accept Upgrade version key up front, so skip it and Clean Install Windows 7.

Afterwards do Option 3 workaround in Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version to activate with Upgrade version key on new or cleaned HD.
