Hi,
Boot to Safe mode and perform system restore. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only. If system restore fails or unable to access safe mode, follow next step.
Run Start Up repair from the URL mentioned: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-vista/Startup-Repair-frequently-asked-questions
If the issue still persists, then try running the Hardware Diagnostics. If you get any error code, make a note of the error code.
Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which start with disinfecting since Win7 may not repair until disinfected. Then everything possible to start Win7 is given leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files and running Factory Recovery or Clean REinstaling.
Thanks guys. I took it back to the guy after he cracked the s$&ts about it being broken. So never had a chance to try the options you guys listed.
