Windows 7: Curious about Registry after Full Install

Curious about Registry after Full Install

A few days ago I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro. Before I did the install, I formatted to my C drive mainly to eliminate "Old Windows".

The install and getting all the updates seemed to fine.

When I started install my software, I noticed that Windows seemed to remember things it should NOT remember.

On some software (not all) it remembered preference settings that I had used on previous installs. It did this often enough to get my attention. I cannot see that it has caused problems with the software running the way it should.

I am just curious as to how this could happen.

Any insight would help me understand this. Thanks.

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

1. Type Disk Management in Start Search box.
2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, click New, draw a box around full drive map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Tell us what is on each partition.

It looks correct except that you should have deleted System Reserved and C to create a new partition there which would have re-created SysReserved and marked it Active to received the System boot files. Instead by just installing to existing C it cut System Reserved out altogether. This is OK if you don't mind a useless 100mb in the primest real estate.

I don't know why it would remember settings unless they were somehow registered to a software's Product Key. You left nothing on C which has a normal size clean install.

If you want to do it over hew to the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get it perfect.

I did format C drive before reinstalling Windows, but did NOT format the F drive (System Reserved). I guess that could have caused this issue. Next time I will remember to do that.

Did you read what I just wrote? I said nothing about formatting which is a negligible step that would be done for you even if you forget it.

I said you needed to delete System Reserved and C during install using the Custom>Drive Options then Create and Format a new partition in the space which would set it up correctly for reinstall.

If you don't understand then ask back for clarification - don't just blather on about another theory you have ignoring what I just told you.

Registry Setting for Windows to Open Full Screen
I have been all over the net on this problem which apparently annoys quite a lot of users. MS MVP's usually say something like, "don't be so lazy; just maximize the window". Not very helpful. :sarc: Now before I did a reinstall, all my Explorer or Program windows when clicked on opened to a...
