So what do i do with the old sata hdd? As all the info is on it and it seems a waste sat there doing nowt.
Do you see where im coming from?
Also what about my loading all my itunes, photos etc.
or can i con fig the hdd as you did in past with a secondary hdd
I assume you have both data and apps on the HDD.

If you do a clean install to the SSD, you will need to reinstall the apps. I'd reinstall them to the SSD.

The data now on the HDD can be left on the HDD. You could put it on the SSD, but it probably isn't big enough. After you install Windows to the SSD, you can reconnect the HDD, make a data partition on it, move your data from C on the HDD to the new data partition. Then delete the old C partition on the HDD.

Most of us with SSDs also have an HDD, but the HDD only has data. Probably no data on the SSD.
Thats what i was after, but with all ive been trying it went out my head to mention. SSd is 256GB so at the moment plenty of space.

Check for a firmware update for your SSD.

Follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are the same for retail and offer the Best Practices based on helping with thousands of them here.

As given in tutorial install all Important and Optional Updates until all are complete. Any drivers still missing can then be imported but none others unless performance points to one.

Now install your programs slowly with enough time in between each to gauge performance changes, root out any startups or services they try to sneak in. Run a completely clean boot except for Microsoft Security Essentials and gadgets/Skydrive.

Plug back in the HD to access your data sorted into User folders which I would copy off the old OS onto another HD data partition you shrink to create in Disk Mgmt. Then from SSD Win7 rightclick on each User folder to add to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums which is the easiest way to link data from the HD.

Once you're ready you can delete the OS partition off HD in Disk Mgmt, repartition it or expand the data drive into its space using Partition Wizard Resize Partition - Video Help.

Loaded windows then spent 2 hours doing updates and then realised nothing is being written and saved to the ssd. So in the morning, crucial are having a SSD sent back to them. Yes some of it is my ignorance, some is also the fact there video made it look oh so simple. I may ask for a smaller SSD or money back, if i get a smaller SSD, I will do a clean install.
Thanks to the repliers. I may be back!!

Win7 installer ISO has all of the drivers for modern controllers with only the rarest exceptions. If you're under warranty I would have their phone support (if affordable - otherwise chat) help you test it for possible RMA. THere might arise another solution from this based on known issues.

Thanks to great customer service, Crucial are providing a new ssd. Whoopee!!
This time i will do a clean install, rather than clone. Im using win7 64 Home premium with SP1.
Is there anything i should do before i install(in the past to a new HDD i would let the windows install do everything) apart from change the SATA config to AHCI

    Many Thanks Everyone

All you should have to do is disconnect all other hard drives and peripherals. All you need is mouse, monitor, and keyboard.

You could make partitions in Diskpart, but there's no particular advantage to it in a typical situation.

Diskpart method is the way to avoid having a "system reserved" partition if you'd rather not have it. Not a big deal.

Great to hear that Crucial backs their SSD's so well.

While you're waiting study the steps for getting a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
so that you only need to do it once, then save externally a Win7 backup image to use if it ever requires reinstall again.
