New Computer OEM vs Retail Win7 & What Version for 16GBs

Hi All,

I currently have a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 32/64k (Retail) from my old computer. The new computer comes with Windows 7 OEM version plus Office 2010 starter, Nero 9 Essentials, Microsoft Pack and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

A little nervous about OEM versions and their extra software! I would really appreciate comments about Retail vs OEM.

Is Windows 7 Home Premium sufficient for a new system with 16GBs of RAM?

The Retail and OEM is exactly the same OS. The OEM will have the "Bloatware", which means you have free trial copies of every software you can think about and would never use. The OEM is tied to your motherboard. If you get a new motherboard you would need to get a new Win 7. The Retail can be moved from one computer to another. That is the only difference. If you decide to get rid of the Bloatware, use this tutorial to help. Clean Up Factory Bloatware == If you decide to do a Clean Install with the Retail Version, this tutorial will help. Clean Install Windows 7
== Yes, Windows Home Premium is all most people need.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. My concern, as you have kindly mentioned, is the bloatware.

If the OEM software is tied directly to the motherboard, I highly doubt I could ask them not to place any software on the new computer.

I wouldn't worry about the OEM. Only the Bloatware could be a bother. Other than that it is just as good as a Retail.
