Can't access safe mode, win 7 won't complete install even on reformat

    Laptop is aspire7720zg

Last nite it was sluggish so I manually rebooted. Couldn't access it on restart due to it locking up at welcome screen...the circle kept spinning. Rebooted in safe mode it froze up at Classpnp.sys

Rebooted a few times... Nothing. Decided to reformat partition c where win 7 was on and do a fresh install of win 7 it got thru most of it and rebooted I could get past the date set up and comp naming and then it would give me problems on restart where it would forever customize themes and media player....

Now I'm able to access partition d where thankfully I kept my data and media so I am currently transferring the files thru the load drives window option of the windows 7 disk I have inserted... My last option is to reformat the d drive as well after I move all the files and delete the drive and make a new partition, two of them again... But I don't want to do that just yet if you guys maybe can help me out, tel me what I'm missing?

Im afraid I'd the hard drive went bad.? But then if it did why is then am I able to access partition d of it since physically it's same hard drive isn't it.

Remember all this time I can't get to the desktop... Even safe mode locked up at Classpnp.sys.... What does this mean, hard drive went to bad or sector is corrupted to the point a reformat doesn't do the job ?

    What to do

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals, Boot into BIOS setup to see if there is an EFI Boot Disk in BIOS Boot order. If so remove it, set DVD drive first to boot. If EFI BIOS also set to Legacy BIOS. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO here. How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

At first screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SEL DIS 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
    CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for a 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
    FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
    ACTIVE
    EXIT

Next click Install Now to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

Greg, I fixed it essentially the way I was going to as a last option. After I successfully transferred the files from D drive (partition) - I restarted, booted from my Win7 disk and deleted ALL PARTITIONS. Then created new ones from Unallocated space - and it works now. Seems like Comodo Security is a POS "software" that corrupted my drive to unimaginably painful state. This all went to shit when I installed that POS program.

Lesson learned - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. My comp was running fine til I got Comodo cos the "reviews" on PCMag "recommended" it - whatever.

Good to know. I have only heard bad things about CommodeO and removing it solved problems in the past.

It's second to the worst of all infections MucAfee whose creator is finally today being tracked as a human murderer after serial killing OS's for years.

I gave you the full version in case that failed so you'd have the next half dozen steps all in one post.
