As I thought soberly about this last night, I remembered that when I rescued this machine out of the mud I inherited valuable software that I do not have the disks for. I have a good stock of system images, but a reinstall is not advisable at this time.

So the question is whether I want to play with the SR partition and get it working, which would essentially be a tech exercise, or just leave it alone. Not sure at this point.... :)

Audit all installed software and their Product Keys using Belarc Advisor.

We can help you find any installers which are missing and unavailable on their website.

Since it's booting fine with the OEM partition Inactive then you can also just leave it. I think your Hibernate solution is to be found elsewhere. Did you work through all of the steps I first gave you?

Thanks again guys. I think the rational explanation is that the Windows 7 upgrade did not find enough free space in the SR and so switched the boot duties to the C partition. At some point I may expand the SR and switch over to it, but then it holds the Vista BCD, not the Win7, and I could be asking for more trouble. This might be a case where it's better to let sleeping dogs lie.
