    hi greg,

i just bought a hp envy 17t. i just installed a 480 ssd, and tried to do a clean install win7 via usb. after the disabling of secure boot and enabling legacy support, i still am unable to get to the screen where i can usually delete and and create partitions for the win7 install. when the win7 gui loads, i pick english as the language, and click install win7 now, but then i get a screen saying that

    Load Driver
"a required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

i cannot seem to pass this screen even after i followed your steps with the command lines above...

in my bios, i do notice that i am unable to change my raid to ACHI because there isnt a setting for that at all like my old hp, idk if thats the problem or not. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance ~ jim

wow mom...i just figured it out! there was a setting in bios for AUTO on the usb setting to bypass the 3.0 usb during installation.

i guess the best thing to do is not try to do this late at night! thanks anyways :)

Ok. I'm back. I went to a computer repair shop and the guy got me into Legacy mode. But, my USB legacy is not working, and all my drivers are on the USB. The BIOS shows Legacy USB enabled, but after I installed Windows 7, Device Manager shows USB drivers not installed. None of my device drivers are installed, except for the HDD, graphics, DVD, and mousepad from the BIOS. How do I get my Legacy USB to work?

Follow the steps in red for how drivers are handled during Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

That tutorial has been used by over 1.5 million consumers without a single complaint or problem. You'll have a perfect install for as long as you stick with only the tools and methods given in it.

I cannot get to the Internet to download drivers because the Ethernet card driver is not loaded. There is no setting for that in the BIOS.

That's why the tutorial says to put your ethernet or wireless LAN driver in your backup so you can get online to run Windows Updates which deliver most other drivers and important patches required to make the hardware, software and OS work correctly.

You'll need to borrow a PC or go to the library and download your PC or Ethernet device's driver from its Support Downloads webpage to a flash stick or disk.

I have the drivers on a flash stick, but the USB ports are not working, even though Legacy USB is enabled in BIOS.

Can I stick my two cents in here and ask if you can disable that AV you have installed and try again as I for one am not a fan of MucAfee and also to save me searching right back though the thread what model Asus machine you had.
I ask because I bought an Asus ROG gamer (that came with 7 installed but was made for 8) a while ago and I had real problems getting drivers for Windows 7 for it without updating the BIOS first.
Then it was a real battle with their support (without any outcome) and so luckily the local Asus service centre in Sydney got me put right - and within an hour.
I cannot remember off hand exactly what got me right but it all depended on the BIOS being set correctly but I am sure it was setting it away from some default EUFI BIOS settings.

If you did indeed ruin your Win7 with MucAfee then please start over at the top to do a truly perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

If you only have USB3 ports and after a real reinstall these still don't work because there are no USB3 drivers in Win7 w/ SP1 installer, then you'll need to put them on a disk.

Did you try all USB ports to see if there is one that's USB2. USB3 ports are blue inside.

First of all, this is a clean install of Windows 7 after enabling Legacy BIOS. I have two USB2 ports, but the system is not enabling them, even though in Legacy BIOS they are enabled. The guy at the computer shop brought up a menu to choose which device to boot up with, and I can't get that to come up to select USB. He used one of the "F" keys to bring it up.
