Win 7 32bit installation problem on GPT disk

I would request any body to help me on following issue.

I was runing Win 7 pro 32 bit on lenovo B470 laptop with i3 processor, 2GB RAM, 750 GB HDD. I thought to upgrade 32 bit to 64 bit as I got Win DVD from market.
In first attempt upgrade was un successful but after lot of search on net, I finally found that Win 7 64 bit does not install on Mdr partition. so I saved the data and unallocated all the partitions and did a clean installtion. After installation and update I found two problems. 1. Laptop was not shutting down. Even not going to sleep or hybernate. I used to manually press the power button to shut down the laptop. 2. During power-on F2, F11 and F8 keys were not responding. This means that I can not see BIOS or change the boot sequance.

I found lot of information on net regarding both the issues but unfortunately the information is either not correct or not complete. I have installed all the drivers correctly but problem is still there. I intend to shift back to 32 bit system but problem is this that I can not convert back to Mdr disk as I can not access command prompt at boot and change boot sequence( due to f2, f11 f8 key not responding). Even while deleting partition from comd prompt from start menu or disk management, it says I can not delete boot partion and it can be only deleted on start up. any one can please help me what wrong I am doing?

Windows 7 64 bit certainly does install on Master Boot Record, MBR, hard drives. The only time you need to go to GPT, GUID, is if you have a drive larger then 2TBs. MBR has a limit of 2TBs.

thanks fo reply but how to go back to mdr from gpt specially when when i can not delete partitions with in win 7 64 bit and at the same time cant access bios to load installer at during boot. pleaseee help

The bit-version has no bearing on whether the Fkeys will work to boot into BIOS setup since that is controlled by the BIOS before the OS even comes into play. If this is still a problem reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

You do not need to use a new Win7 license as you're entitled to run either 32- -64 bit with any Win7 license, so use the Product Key on your COA sticker to activate.

What is the bit-version which came with the laptop, as that's the one I would use. Otherwise if it's 4gb or more RAM I would use 64 bit to utilize all of the RAM.

Back up your files, unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup to enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

thanks for reply.. but how to deal with problem when I have already done mistake. how to go back to win 7 32 bit after I have partitioned HDD to GPT. I would appriciate if your could help me in this regard. my HDD size is 750 GB with 2GB RAM

gregrocker.. thanks for reply but I am unable to access BIOS as F2 key is not functioning at boot up. how to access BIOS. moreover sticker on back of my laptop says win 7 32 bit home edition. but I have loaded a clean win 7 64 bit and all problem started after this... help please.. desperatly waiting for response

Then download the 32 bit installer for your licensed version in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Reset the BIOS to defaults using one of the methods given here that don't require F2 if that is actually the key to enter BIOS setup: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. Then try tapping the key given to enter BIOS Setup on first screen.

If you can't do this then skip the BIOS steps and run the other steps given earlier to clean the HD and partition as an Active drive for install. Once it's installed, check for newer BIOS update to apply, or if still necessary to enter BIOS you may need to reflash your latest BIOS version.
