So I talked to my friend who works at computer repair store and I am going to have him reinstall the OS on my laptop so it will be clean again and purchase another copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for the desktop (after looking at the differences, they were so minimal, I don't even need Ultimate).
Thanks for the advice, there were just too many extraneous steps in the link you posted (backing up user accounts and such) that I got lost and didn't want t mess anything up, so I'm just going to have an expert help me with it.

Why are these "extraneous" steps? Because it's thorough? Would you want to reinstall and find out you've forgotten something that can't be replaced? That's why there are many needed steps included, and only positive feedback from countless users.
I'm sorry you didn't have faith in yourself but since you are at the top site on the web for this specialty you DO have us to rely upon. But if you prefer spending money then let us know how that works out for you.

Only "extraneous" because I don't need to back anything up. Sorry for offending you, I wasn't trying to knock your tutorial in any way what-so-ever, I was just saying that it is a little complicated for my familiarity with computers.
I guess the only reason why I'd rather spend money is because I realize that my knowledge of computers (or lack of) is more of a liability than a strong point. My friend makes a living doing this and he could use the money, so I'd be glad to pay him for this job.
Again, thanks for your help, and if I had just taken it into the shop in the first place none of this would've been necessary so sorry for wasting your time....

NewUserOne it sometimes help to print out the Tutorial and follow along while doing things like this. It helps me sometimes. When you feel comfortable doing a clean install give it a try again. You will learn how to do it and at the last resort you can always take it to a shop. Gregs instruction are very complete and to a new comer might look overwhelming but they are not. They are just complete. When you get your computer back let us know if its activated and working properly.
The man knows of which he speaks. After you get a few outrageous bills for having something done that you could and SHOULD have done yourself you'll change you mind I betcha. All the recommended tutorials are extremely detailed and through but if you DO have any problems or questions there are many very knowledgeable and helpful people here just chomping at the bit to help you.
I'm not offended at all, just a true believer.
In fact now that you explain you'd like to help out your techie friend at Christmas it makes me think a lot of you. If there's anything we can help you with just let us know.
Thanks for the advice. I guess it just give me more "closure" or security knowing that someone else is doing it for me (whom I trust very much) as opposed to myself who tends to over-complicate things by nature. This is definitely something I should learn in the future, as I plan on using computers for the rest of my life and it will only aid me to become more familiar with them.
I understand that you guys (sevenforums) are a legitimate resource (as I have come here before for help), it's just too bad I can't actually hand it over to one of you - that is why I am willing to pay for experienced labor. I'll let you guys know how it works out. This laptop (the one that is being reinstalled) was my first real personal computer and was seriously neglected in many aspects, so it will be nice to bring it back closer to its original, out-of-factory performance. Next time a reinstall needs to be performed, I will attempt it myself (hopefully this won't be for a long time).
Hopefully if everything goes well I won't need your guys' assistance, but I will certainly let you know
I normally wouldn't be so inclined to pay someone to do this, but knowing the guy and his level of knowledge and consideration for customers it actually makes me feel reassured. Of course, I came to you guys first, so I am already aware of what a tremendous resource this site (and it's users) is (are).
